"Jokeress" is a series of "inner" self-portraits that seek to give a face to human states of mind. It is anxiety about the future, pain, fear, and anger for the present and the past, the desire to rebel and the belief in oneself as powerless to do so. The desire for rebirth and renewal makes these faces like petrified, with their subtle grimaces, like faces lost and paralysed by these emotions.
At the same time, "Jokeress" seeks to exorcise this discomfort, the incommunicability of these heavy and chaotic emotions, sometimes unrecognisable and intertwined. The struggle of experiencing them and the desire to emerge from them strengthened and improved. They are portraits as reminders, good luck charms, like talismans, that recall the suffering experienced but that offer the hope and strength to break free from this emotional block.
This series reveals a burning desire to challenge the status quo, the pivotal moment that leads to personal redemption, and the promise of transformation.
