Description

JC, or “Jesus Christ” from the series The Genitals, is imbued with provocation and rebellion.

JC is not only the saviour betrayed by humanity but also a man who evokes the concept of motherhood as a superior principle, a sort of “new theology” in which the true divinity is not the Father but the Mother. The “MUM” tattoo etches a visceral, almost primitive attachment to the concept of motherhood into his flesh. But which mother?
The phrases above his head, “My mother is always right” and “Respect Nature,” might provide an answer. Christ here is not only speaking of Mary, but of a more universal Mother: Nature, the planet itself, the source of life that humans continue to destroy despite “her sacrifice.” Hence the violent, almost desperate tone: “I died for you and you suck, motherfuckers.”

This is no longer the compassionate Christ of tradition, but an angry Christ, who looks at humanity and finds it disappointing, ungrateful, incapable of respecting what truly matters. A Christ who doesn’t preach forgiveness, but rather shoves the truth in the face of those who observe him.

The halo becomes a mix between a sacred icon and a Burger King crown, continuing the theme of sacredness sold off and religion as pop spectacle. The wings on his head almost seem like a remnant of the “divine heights” transformed into a postmodern caricature. The symbol of the cross around his neck and the initials JC, which seem to form an anchor, suggest a shift in affiliation: from the Christian faith, Christ approaches the concept of “himself” as the true anchor of salvation.
